Angel Reese has so far had the best run of games of any rookie in the league. She has been able to adjust to the WNBA and has been crucial to the way her Chicago Sky play games. However, in today’s game against the powerhouse Connecticut Sun, she received her official ‘welcome to the WNBA’ moment at the hands of superstar Alyssa Thomas.
In the 3rd quarter, as Angel Reese was going up for a rebound, Alyssa Thomas had her arm around Reese’s neck and pulled her down. The former LSU star crashed down onto the floor with her hands on her head. After review, Connecticut Sun’s best player Thomas was issued a flagrant 2 and ejected. However, the impact of the hard foul shook Reese up. She took the time during the review to get her senses right before coming back into the game.
This was not a blatant act of aggression. Reese was on Thomas all throughout the game. Battling for rebounds and shots. Prior to this aggressive act, Alyssa Thomas was showing her frustrations in the previous couple of plays. But in both instances, Reese got back up and went back into the battle.
Maybe that’s why the superstar took it up a notch. Her frustrations were visible as she did not even reach out to Reese or look apologetic. Reese being the superstar she is, had fans pouring out their love to her and taking shots at Thomas.

Angel Reese has quite a strong following. Strong enough to take the social media attack on Alyssa Thomas big enough to demand change. However, Reese knows that this is a part of basketball, and she will have to endure it to become a better player.

The next meeting between the Chicago Sky and the Connecticut Sun is in 2 weeks. The battle will be again at home where fans will be hoping for Angel Reese to give her reply.
