(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — International rock superstars U2 have postponed the final 10 dates of its Vertigo ’06 world tour, set for Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hawaii.
A joint statement by promoters The Next Adventure (TNA) and Michael Coppel Presents (MCP) attributed the cancellations to the illness of an immediate family member, but did not give any specific details.
“Any fan of U2 will realize that this decision has not been taken lightly,” TNA president Arthur Fogel said in a statement. “We will announce further details as soon as we have them.”
The affected dates were set for March 17-18 at Auckland’s Ericcson Stadium, March 21 at Brisbane’s Queensland Sports & Athletics Centre, March 24-25 at Melbourne’s Telstra Dome, March 28 at Adelaide’s AAMI Stadium, March 31 and April 1 at Sydney’s Telstra Stadium, April 4 at Yokohama’s Nissan Stadium, and April 8 at Honolulu’s Aloha Stadium.
All shows except for Adelaide were sold out, according to Billboard. Kanye West, who was set to open for U2 in those Australia and New Zealand on the band’s first visit to those countries in eight years, will go ahead with six of his own shows. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
