Travis Kelce had the honor of receiving the first-ever behind-the-back pass from Patrick Mahomes at an official pre-season game. To the naked eye, it seemed the move was premeditated by the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, but was it really? Kelce provided the answer.
According to the All-Pro tight end, he wasn’t aware or ready for Mahomes to throw a pass to him because it was not the plan. He saw the 28-year-old yelling at him, but he could not make out because of his raspy voice and the arrowhead crowd screaming at the top of their lungs.
Kelce just ran into the free space vacated by the Detroit Lions offensive line as Mahomes improvised the throw. Later, when the NFL Network’s 4th-best player was asked about the move, he put Kelce on the pedestal by saying the 34-year-old forgot to run his intended route. Kelce, on the other hand, blamed it on Mahomes’ voice.
You know his got the voice thing [tried to imitate Patrick Mahomes’ voice]. So he kinda mumbled down the play I couldn’t hear, so I was walking out to the line and tried to decipher what he was saying. Before I knew it, he snapped the ball, and then I kinda saw him out of my peripheral run to the sidelines—tried to go help my guy out, and by the time I looked over there, he was already in mid-form like a photo on a sports car.Travis Kelce said

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes cheered for KC Current
Despite the new trick pass, the Chiefs succumbed to their second straight pre-season loss as the Lions won 24-23. Mahomes finished with 8/14 for 93 yards, while his behind-the-back pass was the only catch Kelce received before head coach Andy Reid said it was enough for the game.
Across the town, women’s soccer league side KC Current was about to kick off their gold medal match against the Atletico Madrid women’s team. Patrick Mahomes, along with his wife Brittany Mahomes, who owns a part of the current, along with Travis Kelce, Trey Smith, Isiah Pacheco, and Creed Humphrey, showed up to support the home team.
