BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The city of Boise is saving energy. Crews are in the process of switching street lights from high-pressure sodium bulbs to LED ones. According to Public Works documents, LED bulbs use 60 percent less energy. The city says it costs $245,000 a year. Colin Hickman, City of Boise Public Works spokesman, told CBS2 the city saves approximately $13,000 a year through the program. Hickman added the city’s power usage is down approximately $250,000 a year from when the program first started.
