F1’s living legend Michael Schumacher has left an ever-lasting impact on the sport despite being away from it for 10 long years. The seven-time World Champion succumbed to a terrible skiing accident while he was enjoying a break from Formula 1 in 2013. And ever since then, there have been several rumors that Michael Schumacher is almost comatose and bed-ridden. But the German has never been seen in public, and his health updates have been a topic of extensive discussion amongst the F1 fans.
Michael Schumacher is supported by a close-knit family with his brother Ralf always speaking about how he misses the former Ferrari and Mercedes racer. Michael also has two children with his wife Corinna Schumacher–a daughter, named Gina Maria Schumacher and a son, named Mick Schumacher. Mick briefly appeared in Formula 1 after being crowned the FIA F2 Champion in 2020. But he could only keep his seat at Haas for the ’21 and ’22 season before being ousted because of lack of promising results. Currently, Mick has shifted to Formula E with Alpine.
Now, Michael Schumacher’s daughter Gina Maria is reportedly going to get married to her boyfriend Iain Bethke in the Summer of 2024. And to see Gina Maria walk down the isle, the debilitated former Formula 1 racer will probably be present at the wedding ceremony. The wedding will perhaps take place at a Schumacher family mansion in Spain. According to GB News, the Schumachers had bought the Spain villa from Real Madrid President Florentino Perez in 2017.
Current F1 Champion Max Verstappen’s father Jos used to be one of Michael Schumacher’s rivals
The achievements that Michael Schumacher attained during his hay days in Formula 1 are unprecedented. His prowess behind the wheels of his Ferrari made him a household name during the late 90s in Formula 1. And his records have only been broken by some select few drivers who are present on the current including Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. But Verstappen has a special link to Michael Schumacher that is not known by many.
Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen used to race in Formula 1 himself during the late 90s and the early 2000s. He has driven for teams like Benetton, Minardi, Tyrrell, and Stewart. But Jos could never reach the level that Michael Schumacher did as he only had two podium finishes and 17 career points by the time when he decided to step away from the pinnacle of motorsports.
But Jos’s son Max Verstappen has done more than enough to make him proud. The Dutchman recently lifted his third World Championship in Formula 1 as he almost obliterated his competitors by scoring 19 Grand Prix wins in 2023 out of the 2022 races that were held last year. It remains to be seen if Max returns in full form for snatching the 2024 trophy or if his rivals finally catch up to the 26-year-old.
