EMMETT, Idaho (CBS2) — Behind every bouquet of flowers, there is a story to be told. A gardener of any skill level knows beauty doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, hard work, research, and lots of learning.
For the latest Idaho Adventure, we recently made our way to Root 16 Farms in Emmett. The drive from Boise provided the unexpected gift of time. As you make your way through the community and toward the farm, you’ll notice an older bridge to drive over. For just a moment, it takes you back in time.
Upon arrival, a family that’s hard at work, will greet you. If you’re lucky enough, they might just share their story like they did us. Rob and Roseanne along with their adult children Bobby and Becca are transforming this property. Roseanne and Rob had a dream of running an orchard. In 2018, the dream became a reality. They took ownership of an abandoned orchard. You wouldn’t know it now, but the family recalls the land being filled with wild trees and overgrown weeds.
Old and abandoned buildings had to be removed and the family was up for the challenge. They saw beyond the flaws and knew it could be something special. Hour after hour, they made progress. Sometimes that progress would happen quickly, other times not so much. From clearing weeds and overgrown wild trees to removing 80 tons of concrete, the family took an abandoned space and turned it into something special. Not just for them, but a place to be enjoyed by others.
With each passing year, the family is discovering the beauty that time provides. Like a marvelous marigold or spectacular sunflower, time is making things pretty again. The family, still working on their land together, has a U-Pick flower farm. It’s perfect for families, photos, and anyone who wants to marvel at the variety of flowers. Pumpkins are already coming to life. Come fall, they’ll be ready for the picking.
While you enjoy your bouquet at home or work, the family will keep working. Navigating irrigation systems and tenderly caring for the land so it can be a place generations of people will come to know and make memories.
