Carlos Sainz is one of the most revered drivers on the current F1 grid. However, things have not always been easy for him as he has faced multiple challenges while climbing up the ladder in his junior karting days. To help his son, rally legend, Carlos Sainz Sr. jumped in to guide the young Sainz, who later recalled his advice and explained the reality of the harsh world of motorsports.
The 29-year-old’s path in F1 is currently in a loom of uncertainty. Ferrari sacked him in favor of Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season and left him empty-handed. However, this situation reminded him of his past, when he had fierce battles in the open-wheel series, which did not always end well for his camp.
The similarities made Carlos Sainz recall his father’s advice that helped him get through such rough patches.
One day my father sat me down and told me, 'Carlos, life is very badass and even more so in this sport, either you bite or they bite you , and right now, they are biting you, they are making your life difficult. When you put on that helmet, make sure you are the one who bites.Carlos Sainz said in the Nude Project Podcast
The former three-time race winner explained that his father, Carlos Sainz Sr., told him the reality of motorsports. He elaborated that even though he might reckon that everybody might be his friend, but everyone is here to downplay each other’s achievements to forge their own path. Thus, he needs to bite back at his opponents and show them his worth.
Toto Wolff showers immense praise on Carlos Sainz
While his current situation reminded him of the earlier times, Sainz has a task at hand to save his F1 career. He has been known to have talked to multiple teams regarding a seat for 2025 but has not been able to crack a deal at the sharp end of the grid. On the contrary, the Mercedes team principal has come forward and stated that the Spaniard deserves a top seat in the sport.
Toto Wolff commended the 29-year-old for his impressive results.
I think, first of all, Carlos deserves a top seat. I mean, he’s done a fantastic job. But for us, we’ve embarked on a route now to say – ‘You know what, we want to reinvent ourselves a little bit going forward’Toto Wolff said in an interview with Sky Sports
The Austrian claimed that Sainz had done a fantastic job. Moreover, he has been one of the few drivers to have won a race in the past two years amidst the dominant reign of Max Verstappen. Thus, he deserves a top seat on the F1 grid.
However, after praising the Spanish driver for his monumental efforts, Wolff stated that a seat at Brackley might not be a realistic option as they are looking to promote Kimi Antonelli. On the other hand, Sainz states the 2025 move is crucial as it can be a make-or-break situation for his future.
