City of Boise working on replacing close to 10,000 light bulbs

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) The city of Boise is saving energy. Crews are in the process of switching street lights from high-pressure sodium bulbs to LED ones. According to Public Works documents, LED bulbs use 60 percent less energy. The city says it costs $245,000 a year.

Colin Hickman, City of Boise Public Works spokesman, told CBS2 the city saves approximately $13,000 a year through the program.

Hickman added the city’s power usage is down approximately $250,000 a year from when the program first started. By the time it wraps up, it should be down around $300,000 a year.

Hickman says about 6,700 lights have been replaced and there are around 3,000 left to go. Most are in residential neighborhoods.
