Bianca Odinakachukwu Olivia Odumegwu-Ojukwu was born on August 5, 1968, in Ngwo, in present-day Enugu State. She is the sixth child of Christian Onoh, a former Anambra governor; and Carol Onoh, who was a college principal.
She spent the majority of her childhood in rural Ngwo with her seven siblings. She, however, relocated abroad and received her A-levels after attending the following schools: the Pontefract-based Ackworth School, St. Andrew’s College in Cambridge, and Cambridge Tutorial College.
She enrolled at the University of Buckingham and started a combined honours degree in Politics, Economics, and Law. However, she later changed schools to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, at the insistence of her lawyer-father, who insisted she focus solely on Law and join the family business.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu attended the Nigerian Law School and after she finished her programme, she was called to the bar. She obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Alfonso X El Sabio University, Spain, in 2016.

Career
After graduating from law school, Odumegwu-Ojukwu practised as a lawyer before giving it up to devote her time to her family, her cosmetics company, Bianca Blend; and her interior design company, Mirabella. She also worked as a model and was featured in adverts on print advertisements, despite her reservations concerning modelling.
She also founded Hope House Trust, a non-profit organization in Enugu dedicated to the rehabilitation of young criminals.
Pageantry
Odumegwu-Ojukwu transitioned from modelling to pageantry and immediately made an instant hit as she won the Miss Martini contest. She, however, came into the national limelight when she was named Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in December 1988, although she held the title for the majority of 1989.
The beauty queen subsequently got more acclaim as she was crowned Miss Africa in 1989 in Gambia and won the Miss Intercontinental pageant contest the same year. She was a semi-finalist at the now-defunct Miss Charm International in Russia, where she was awarded Miss Congeniality. She was also Nigeria’s representative at the 1989 Miss World and Miss Universe in Hong Kong and Mexico, respectively.
Politics
President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs in 2011. She later served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Ghana in 2012 and the Kingdom of Spain in 2013. She concurrently served as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the World Tourism Organization while serving as the country’s ambassador to Spain.
She currently serves as the Secretary of the Truth, Justice and Peace Committee inaugurated by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, in April 2022.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a party in which her late husband was instrumental to its state and national recognition. She serves as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu was exposed in 1989 by the press for having a covert romantic relationship with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a former military governor of the Eastern Region and the leader of the failed breakaway Republic of Biafra. Ojukwu was 30 years older than her and was a political ally of her father.

The expose occurred halfway through her tenure as MBGN. By the 1990s, their contentious relationship was a hot topic in the nation. She resigned as Miss Intercontinental as the great pressure of living under the spotlight became intolerable because her priority was finishing law school. After eventually earning her degree in 1994, she wedded the ex-Biafran leader in a wedding conducted in Abuja.
After the death of her husband, her name popped up in the headlines in March 2022 when she gave Ebelechukwu Obiano, the-then departing First Lady of Anambra State, what has come to be known as a “valedictory slap”. The incident occurred on 17 March at the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Soludo of Anambra State.
Family
Ikemba Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu got married in 1994 and had three children together before the ex-Biafran warlord passed away in 2011.
She acknowledged that while she was content with her marriage and grateful to have discovered her partner, she would not advise her daughter to pursue a similar path in terms of getting married.
Awards and recognition
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu was recognised with a Certificate of Merit by El Mundo Diplomatico for her work in creating platforms that effectively foster positive engagement between Nigeria and Spain.
In 2014, the Dutch magazine, The Voice, named her Africa’s Outstanding Ambassador.
At the state’s Silver Jubilee celebration in 2016, the Anambra State government presented her with the Ambassador of Excellence Award.
